Cam's iPad gift wish list

The days are growing shorter, colder and darker, that can only mean one thing: Christmas is on its way. So, with Santa due to be forcing his way down my chimney in a month’s time, I thought I’d write up a list of Apple iPad related products that I want, or wish that I could have. It’s a pretty realistic list, so there’s no time travel apps, or universe creating accessories here. That’s for another time.
1. 32GB Apple iPad 3G + WiFi – $729
There’s no denying that this holiday season is the season for tablets, and 7 inches is not enough for me, so, the iPad it is. As I currently don’t have one, it’s priority one on my list. WiFi spots are few and far between in this area, and 16GB just aint enough space for my media collection, so this is the minimum that I need. I’ll be visiting the Apple website on Friday to take advantage of the “one-off” special event. (Available here.)
.
2. Griffin Powerdock Dual – $59.99
I love organization. Anything that makes my desk tidy, or keeps my life de-cluttered is a good thing. This practical and stylish accessory is Griffin’s all-in-one iPad and iPhone/iPod stand, which charges your devices, and offers a dish for loose change and keys. It’s practically perfect for me. (Available here.)
.
3. AmpliTube iRig – $39.95
I’m a guitar player, and in my spare time, which has all but gone since my two kids arrived, I love nothing more than to sit and chill out with my favorite Stratocaster. This combo of accessory and iOS app converts your iPad (or iPhone) in to a virtual effects processor. It looks too cool to miss out on, and it’s only forty dollars. My wife and neighbors will all be happy that my shredding is no longer blasted through an amplifier. (Available here.)
.
4. iGrill Grilling/Cooking Thermometer – $99.95
No one wants a undercooked Turkey for Thanksgiving. With this accessory I can make sure that the meat is cooked to the right temperature. Even if I was off to warmer climates for winter, I could check my BBQ’d meat was safely grilled. It’s a great concept, and I’d be ‘the’ gadget guy for at least one holiday season. (Available here.)
.
5. Altec Lansing Octiv Stage – $149
This accessory is a speaker system that holds your iPad with a clever pivoting frame. The speakers themselves are designed to fill your room with sound, as well as boosting voice audio. This means if you want to watch a video, you can, and you’ll hear all the dialogue clearly. The frame is designed to be used in portrait or landscape mode, and can be pivoted so that the viewing angle is perfect for you. (Available here.)
.
6. Jack Spade folio – $69.95
Every iDevice needs a suitably classy case, and I’m a sucker for brand names. My iPhone 3GS had a stylish, blue leather pouch, my iPad should have a seventy dollar folio. This case acts as a stand, it protects the iPad from scratches and bumps, has a pouch for cables, and includes a cut-out hole in the bottom so that it can be docked without removing it. Perfect. (Available here.)
.
7. Camera Connection kit – $29
As well as blogging, playing music and parenting, I like to snap the odd photograph on my DSLR. What would be great is if I could transfer the ones I liked on to my iPad without first having to hook it up to my computer, then syncing the iPad. Cut out the middle man I always say. This tool lets me do just that. I can attach my camera or an SD card directly to my iPad via a little connector. (Available here.)
.
8. Apple wireless keyboard – $69
I’m not a huge fan of virtual keyboards, no matter how good they proclaim to be, and so the physical keyboard is an absolute must have. Plus it’s sleek and slim.  I chose the wireless keyboard over the keyboard dock for two reasons:
1) The keyboard dock looks awkward to move around with that ugly dock sticking out the back of it.
2) It will work with my MacBook as well as with the iPad. It’s like having two accessories in one.
(Available here.)
.
9. iCade: iPad arcade cabinet – $149
If people have no appreciation for my awesome iGrill thermometer, I can whip out the mini arcade cabinet for iPad. There really are no words to describe how this makes me feel. Nothing beats the feel of a classic arcade joystick in your hand, coupled with an iPad makes something truly magical. The accessory needs a specific retro games app to work, but it’s so cool. (Available here.)
.
10. Gelaskins iPad skin – $29
There’s not really a better way to make my iPad stand out than by covering it in one of these unique, scratch resistant skins. Not only is it like giving the hardware a tattoo, but it comes with a downloadable wallpaper so that the whole device blends.
